DO PDO THREADS WORK FOR HAIR RESTORATION?

PDO threads have gained popularity in aesthetic medicine and are now being used for hair restoration as well. PDO threads are made of a biodegradable polymer called polydioxanone (PDO). The procedure is also known as thread embedding therapy (TET). During the procedure, thin PDO threads are inserted just under the surface of the scalp skin. These threads stimulate blood flow, collagen production, fibroblast activity, and elastin production in the scalp. The goal is to promote hair regrowth and improve overall hair density. Proper placement of PDO threads is crucial for safe and effective treatment. The threads should be embedded neither too deep nor too shallow. Many practitioners combine PDO threads with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or exosomes or stem cell treatment for enhanced results. PRP contains growth factors that further stimulate hair follicles and encourage regrowth. Remember to consult with a qualified professional to determine if PDO thread hair restoration is suitable for your specific needs.

HEAR IT FROM OUR PATIENTS

My experience with Maxim hair restoration was a great experience. The staff was so nice and professional. Specially Ms Illona. It’s been 4 months and 3 weeks since I got my eyebrows transplant done there , that was the best decision that I’ve ever made. Now my eyebrows look so beautiful with my natural hair, and it’s not even the full result yet . I spent so much money on microblading, I’ve never been satisfied. I want to thank Ms Sia , she is an expert. Good Job guys

The entire staff was friendly and professional, Dr. Shintre and Ilona are amaizing. Very knowledgeable and anwsered all my questions which made me feel comfortable during the procedure. Nothing comes to mind except for my complete gratitude for the entire team involved in my procedure. Highly recommend.

The team at Maxim was great, they provided much needed guidance and assistance. My husband's procedure went smooth and results are excellent.

I have researched a lot of different places for hair restoration and I'm glad I choose Maxim. The staff was the best. I am about 3 weeks removed from my FUE procedure and everything is going smooth. Everyone was transparent and answered any I had regarding the procedure and what results to expect. I can't wait to see the outcome.

The Dr and staff were professional and welcoming. They thoroughly explained what I needed to do (blood work etc) to ensure I was a candidate. The procedure was also discussed in detail from start to finish; including what to expect and the time frame it takes to see results. I am amazed at the results. Highly recommend this office.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR BODY TO SCALP HAIR TRANSPLANT PROCEDURE?

Consultation with a Qualified Surgeon

The surgeon will assess your suitability for body hair transplantation and provide personalized recommendations to meet your goals and set expectations.

Health Evaluation

Your overall health and medical history play a crucial role in determining candidacy. Inform the surgeon about any existing medical conditions, allergies or medications you are taking.

Quit Smoking

If you smoke, consider quitting at least 6 weeks before and after the surgery. Smoking can hinder blood flow to the skin and affect healing.

Avoid Blood Thinners

Refrain from taking aspirin, certain anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements that can increase bleeding. Stop blood thinners at least 5-7 days prior to surgery.

Avoid Alcohol

Limit alcohol consumption in the days leading up to the procedure. Stop alcohol intake at least 72 hours prior to procedure.

Travel Arrangements

Make travel arrangements if you’re coming from out of town. Arrange for transportation to and from the clinic on the day of the surgery. You are advised not to drive after the procedure.

Postoperative Care Plans

Prepare for the recovery period by having all necessary supplies, prescribed medications, already at home. Follow instructions step by step for best results.

Recovery Results Timeline

One can resume routine activities after 2 weeks. Full results can be expected at 9-12 months after surgery.

Mega Sessions with Body Hair Transplant

Hair follicles are harvested from beard, chest, abdomen, back, in addition to scalp and hence we can accomplish very large harvests of up to 5,000 grafts. More candidates qualify as a matter of fact who otherwise have a poor scalp donor area. We are typically able to achieve results in a single transplant.

Duration And Cost Of Body Hair Transplant

Since the Body to Scalp Hair Transplant procedure is labor and skills-intensive and requires a larger team of clinicians and Techs, it is priced higher than the regular FUE price. Depends on the size and complexity of the procedure. In some cases, it may take a couple of hours longer than a traditional FUE Hair Transplant (6-8 hours).

Anesthesia and Technique Of Body Hair Transplant

Just like anesthesia for our traditional FUE and FUT hair transplants, everything is done in an outpatient setting using local anesthesia. We're looking for the best quality hair we can find on your body. We use the WAW FUE device. Its special hybrid punch and oscillating motor allow our clinicians to penetrate the skin at appropriate depths with minimal trauma.

CAN BODY HAIR BE TRANSPLANTED TO SCALP FOR HAIR RESTORATION

Body hair transplantation is a technique used to address hair loss when traditional scalp donor areas are insufficient. Yes, it is possible to transplant body hair to the scalp. Although body hair may have a slightly different texture and color compared to scalp hair, skilled hair transplant surgeons can blend it seamlessly into your existing hair, providing a fuller head of hair and boosting your confidence. A body hair transplant involves removing hair follicles from various areas of the body (such as the beard, chest, or back) and implanting them in the scalp. This procedure results in permanent hair replacement. The preferred technique for body hair transplants is follicular unit extraction (FUE), which allows individual extraction of hair follicles. If hair loss has spread across the scalp, the donor area may not provide enough follicles. Multiple prior transplants can deplete the scalp’s donor area. Scalp scarring may render donor follicles non-productive. Certain conditions like alopecia areata or alopecia totalis, may also make patients ineligible for traditional donor hair transplants. Unfortunately, the success rates of body hair transplants are lower than those of regular scalp transplants. Genetic differences between body hair and scalp hair contribute to this lower success rate as compared to traditional hair transplants. The procedure duration and recovery are similar to regular hair transplants. Body hair transplants are generally not more painful than traditional methods. The longevity of body hair transplants is comparable to regular transplants. Remember that individual results may vary.

WHAT ARE THE COMMON AREAS OF BODY TO SCALP HAIR TRANSPLANT

BEARD TO SCALP HAIR TRANSPLANT

Beard hair is often the first choice for body hair transplantation (BHT). It tends to be robust, dense, and provides a substantial number of grafts. Beard hair is genetically resistant to balding, making it an excellent option for transplantation. Surgeons frequently use beard hair for Body Hair Transplant due to its reliability and compatibility with scalp hair.

CHEST TO SCALP HAIR TRANSPLANT

Chest hair can also be used for Body Hair Transplant. Chest hair tends to be thicker and coarser than scalp hair. While chest hair may not perfectly match scalp hair, skilled surgeons can blend it effectively for natural looking results. Remember that the choice of donor area depends on individual factors, such as the patient’s needs, hair quality, and availability.

BACK OR EXTREMITY TO SCALP HAIR TRANSPLANT

Back hair is another viable option for Body Hair Transplant. Back hair is typically finer and less dense than beard or chest hair. Surgeons may use back or extremity hair when other areas are insufficient. Remember that the choice of donor area depends on individual factors, such as the patient’s needs, hair quality, and availability.

Full recovery from the procedure is expected by day 10-14 after surgery.  Patients can return to their normal routine 2 weeks after the procedure. Complete hair growth and full result may take up to 9 months. We recommend combining hair restoration with either exosomes or stem cell therapy for an enhanced outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions

African American hair has unique characteristics (curly, coarse). Our skilled team considers these factors for natural-looking results.

African Americans can achieve excellent results with hair transplants. The distinct characteristics of African American hair, such as its curl and angle, offer a natural advantage. While African Americans generally have lower density in the donor area, the curl and angle create the appearance of denser hair, providing fuller, natural-looking coverage. Fewer grafts are typically needed for African American hair transplant procedures compared to straight hair because of this unique hair structure.

Yes. A large segment of our clientele in Boca Raton and South Florida is African American, Indian and Middle Eastern, many of whom have wavy/curly hair. Our clinical team has considerable experience with all types of hair including straight, wavy, curly, thin, and thick. The European Wireless WAW FUE Technology is specifically designed for curly hair and has the lowest transection rate among FUE technologies in the market.

A body to scalp hair transplant involves harvesting hair follicles from areas other than the scalp (such as the beard, chest, back, or legs) and transplanting them to the scalp. This technique is particularly useful when traditional scalp donor areas have insufficient hair transplantation. Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is the preferred method for body to scalp hair transplants. While body hair may have different characteristics (texture, color), skilled surgeons can blend it with existing scalp hair for natural-looking results. Common donor areas for body hair include Beard hair is often used due to its similarity to scalp hair. Chest hair can be a good source for the body to scalp hair transplant. Back, Legs, and Arms can also provide viable donor follicles.

While hair on the head, face, and body does have different attributes, research shows that these hairs begin to adapt to the environment in which they are transplanted. Overtime, they tend to mimic the hair on the head more closely. Additionally, we meticulously place the hairs to act as an ancillary support system to hair used from the donor or existing hair on the scalp to further accentuate the feel and look of thickness and density. The outcome is that the result will still look natural, but the density will be far improved in comparison to a regular FUE hair transplant, if your donor hair is not sufficient to support a full transplant.

The success rate is lower than traditional hair transplant.  The reason why most facilities don't offer body to scalp transplants is due to a lack of ability to harvest the necessary number of grafts in a short enough period where they can still be safely transplanted before graft death begins to occur due to time spent out of body. If they are too slow, the grafts that were removed earlier in the transplant (which are mostly your BEST, because they're scalp derived) will begin to expire. Because of this, choosing your team is crucial to success.

It is safe when done by the proper clinical team. Management of the local anesthesia and time in procedure becomes a more critical factor regarding safety when doing a body hair to scalp transplant. Time is critical for anesthesia, but it's also important for follicular graft health. The grafts can only survive outside of the body for a limited period, so structuring the case flow to ensure they are relocated to the recipient sites as soon as possible will ensure a more optimal clinical outcome.

Yes, you could be! This would require a consultation to determine as many issues may cause you to be a non-candidate such as alopecia areata, lichen planus, or lichen planopilaris.  However, if you were told you are not a candidate because you don't have sufficient donor hair and you have a good amount of strong body hair/beard hair, then you may be an optimal or ideal candidate for a body hair to scalp transplant.

PDO stands for polydioxanone. PDO threads are synthetic monofilament suture that are inserted near your hair follicles. They constantly provide the scalp with low-level irritation like the irritation you'd see in a microneedling procedure, stimulating the production of collagen and keratin that causes hair to regrow. Over time, the sutures dissolve. You can think of PDO as a way to trick your scalp into loading up oxygen, fibroblasts, nutrients, hyaluronic acid, elastin, and other natural substances that encourage your hair to grow.

Most of our clients see results within one to four sessions. While the threads can remain in place for six to eight months, we see exceptional results by replacing them every four to six months. Every client is different, so ask us for your personalized schedule.

For the most part, PDO threads are painless. We apply a topical anestetic before we begin the work. Some clients experience a mild headache directly after the procedure, as well as some redness, swelling, and bruising that generally goes away after a day or so. Most discomfort may be treated with over-the-counter pain relievers.
